Both can be climbed without technical mountaineering skills, making them some of the most rewarding trekking adventures on the continent. At 5,895 metres, Uhuru Peak is the Roof of Africa. We run climbs on the Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai and Umbwe routes, from 5 to 9 days. Each route crosses five climate zones, from rainforest and moorland to alpine desert and the glaciers of the summit, and longer itineraries give you the best chance of reaching the top.
At 4,566 metres, Mount Meru is Tanzania's second-highest mountain, rising inside Arusha National Park. The 3- to 4-day climb passes through forest where buffalo and giraffe are often seen, and ends on a spectacular summit ridge facing Kilimanjaro at sunrise. It is also excellent acclimatisation before a Kilimanjaro climb.
No climbing experience is needed, but good fitness helps. Our guides monitor your health twice a day, set a slow, steady pace to help you acclimatise, and provide quality tents and hearty meals on the mountain. The best climbing seasons are from late June to October and from January to early March.
