The Rongai Route is a 6-day trek up Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. It is considered one of the easiest routes on the mountain, with a good acclimatization profile, a high success rate for reaching the summit, and stunning scenery. The route starts on the northeastern side of the mountain and approaches the summit from the north.

The 6-day Rongai route starts on the northeastern side of the mountain and offers spectacular scenery, including views of both Kenya, Tanzania, and Mawenzi, the third-highest peak in Africa. It is known for its beautiful scenery and diverse landscapes.

Your Itinerary For Roungai Route 6 Days

Day1: Arrival

Once arrived at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will find our experts and take you to the hotel in Moshi for dinner as well as breakfast as per the instruction is given by us, later meet together for the Kilimanjaro briefing and Equipment checkup.

Day 2: Trek Rongai Gate Mount Kilimanjaro to Simba Camp Mount Kilimanjaro

 Trekking distance: 7km/4.5miles

Trekking time: 3-4hrs Walking

Habitat: Rain forest zone

The trek begins with a drive from Moshi to the Rongai Gate, located on the northeastern side of Kilimanjaro.
After your breakfast, you will pick from Moshi to Rongai gate. By reaching the Rongai gate, the porters will assist you to carry the stuff and help to complete the registration process. Then, you will be heading towards Rongai trailhead from the gate. Now, your trail will get started and reach a pine forest. Now, you will have your lunch break and then start approaching towards Simba camp 2600m/8,530ft.

Day 3: Simba  Camp Mount Kilimanjaro to Kikelewa Cave Mount Kilimanjaro

Trekking distance: 12km/8miles

Trekking time: 6-8hrs Walking

Habitat: moorland zone

Once the breakfast is over, you will be taken to Kikelewa Cave 3600m/11,811ft and now the trail passes the second cave 3450m/11,318ft. It is your spot to have your lunch.  This day will  involves a steeper climb out of the rainforest and into the moorland zone, You will eventually reach Kikelewa Camp, where you will be rewarded with stunning ,According to instruction, the tents will be arranged to make camp to stay. Along with that, you will have your dinner at night.

Day 4: Kikelewa Cave Mount Kilimanjaro to Mawenzi Tarn Camp Mount Kilimanjaro

Trekking distance: 5km/3miles

Trekking time: 3-4hrs Walking

Habitat: Alpine desert zone

This day takes you through the semi-desert zone, with views of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks, a short trip to Mawenzi Tarn Camp 4330m/14,206ft and in moorland where you can see various plants. Also, when it comes to camp, you will witness the great views from your camp, You will reach Mawenzi Turn Hut, located at the base of the Mawenzi Volcano, where you will spend the night.

Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Camp Mount Kilimajaro to Kibo Hut Mount Kilimanjaro

Trekking distance: 10km/8miles

Trekking time: 5-7hrs Walking

Habitat: Alpine desert zone

On day 5, you will continue your ascent through the alpine desert, with views of glaciers and snowfields.
Kibo Hut, Tanzania.

After breakfast, you will  continue your ascent through the alpine desert, with views of glaciers and snowfields towards Kibo Hut 4700m/15,419ft which is situated in the Saddle. However, there will be an early dinner which will be provided to you and allow you to take a rest before getting into the summit at mid night. You will reach Kibo Hut, located just below the summit, where you will spend the night and prepare for the summit push

Day 6: Kibo Hut Mount Kilimanjaro, uhuru peak Kilimanjaro to Horombo Hut Mount Kilimanjaro

Trekking distance: 20km/14miles

Trekking time: 11-15hrs Walking

Habitat: summit zone

Summit day is a long and challenging day, but the rewards are worth it.
You will start your ascent from Kibo Hut in the pre-dawn hours, aiming to reach the summit around sunrise.
Uhuru Peak, Mount Kilimanjaro
From the summit, you will have incredible views of the surrounding landscape, including the Kenyan plains and glaciers.
After enjoying the views, you will descend to Horombo Hut for your final night on the mountain.

After having tea and biscuits, you will start your summit where the trail is up to Hans Meyer cave that continues to Gillman’s point 5685m/18,651ft, After this point, you will start to experience the snow-covered trail until you reach the destination Uhuru Peak 5895m/19,340ft. Here is the spot where you can take photos and tea before moving down to Barafu. Now, go down to Kibo Hut and where you can stay for lunch and then take rest. Once your lunch is over, you will be moving down to Horombo Hut 3720m/12,204ft.

Day 7: Horombo Hut Mount Kilimanjaro to Marangu Gate Mount Kilimanjaro

Trekking distance: 20km/12miles

Trekking time: 5-6hrs Walking

Habitat: Rain forest

The final day is a relatively easy hike down to the Marangu Gate, where you will be met by your transport and taken back to Moshi.

After completing your breakfast, you will go down to Marangu gate 1830m/6003ft. Now, the hikers are requested to sign and get their certificates for the completion of the summit. Once received your certificates, you will be getting back to Moshi and completing your journey.
